Ok so something crazy happened last month.
I was searching for the title for my upcoming book. (which eventually got named ‘Born to Stand Out’)
Let me share with you the story behind it and how it gave me a big insight into how intentions work.
I had almost completed the book and finally started looking for a name.
As a typical introvert, I got super obsessed.
I wanted a name that, in itself, was enough to convey the soul of the book.
So I tried and tried. One name after the other.
I wrote a list of over 70 titles.
But none of them felt right. You know what I’m talking about.
None of them gave me the feeling of “Hell yeah, this is it!”.
And I was not going to stop until I got that feeling.
So… I tried something different.
It was late at night. And my mind was still busy thinking names.
I realized perhaps I was taking it too seriously.
So to rest my mind, I decided to set an intention.
This is exactly what I told myself:
“Dear subconscious, I’m setting the intention that by morning you’re going to figure out the name for my book. I trust you. I leave it to you now.”
And I slept.
The next morning…
I woke up.
The first thought that popped up in my mind was… Have I got the name?
I paused for a few minutes. Sitting in bed, eyes closed, searching my memory.
Nothing. I was blank.
I felt disappointed, but I still had some hope.
I went for a walk. I had my coffee. I browsed through the pages of the book.
Still nothing.
I closed my laptop in frustration.
I decided to work on a new list of names. The subconscious was too lazy.
I jumped in the cold shower.
And out of the blue, I started humming this song to cope with the cold water.
“Like a true nature’s child
We were born.. born to be wild
We can climb so high, I never wanna dieeeeee
Born to be wilddddddddd aaaa aaaa aaaa”
I stood still for a few seconds.
I repeated.
“Born to be wild. Born to be wild……. Born to stand out. Born to stand out.”
I got goosebumps. That was it. That was the sign.
I felt it. I felt it to my bones.
Nothing felt more right.
THIS WAS IT.
The simple insight
When we force it, it’s not going to happen.
I was consciously trying to use the subconscious.
It doesn’t work that way.
It works when we’re distracted.
When we allow it some alone time to work on the problem we want it to solve.
I knew that already.
But sometimes we can get so emotional, attached, and obsessed that we forget the fundamentals.
Yes, the subconscious is very powerful.
Yes, it has the power to solve the most complex problems of your life.
But you’ve gotta cut it some slack.
Leave it alone for a while.
Go do something else.
And when it comes, you’ll know it to your bones.
Stay blessed,
– Master
P.S: For those who don’t know what book I’m talking about, it’ll launch on Dec 21. It’s a book written exclusively for introverts. You can read more details HERE.
