Dear introvert, why do you want to control the mind?
Maybe you want to be more healthy, maybe you want to be more wealthy, maybe you want to be more wise.
So, today I’m going to share with you an insight that may help you gain some control over the mind.
But before we start, let me ask you a question.
Why aren’t you able to control your mind? Why aren’t we able to live the life that we want to live?
You know what is the right thing to do? But your mind is like an enemy that won’t let you do things that you want to do.
You know what you want to do.
You know what kind of actions you need to take to live that kind of life you want to live, but your mind won’t let you do it.
You know why?
Because on the surface level, you know the right thing.
But you have desires. Desires that are coming from a part of you that you have no control over.
It’s called the unconscious.
Carl Jung said:
“We wake up the day, the unconscious becomes conscious”
For example, you’re learning to drive a car. In the beginning, you are very confused. You are very fearful, you consciously know, you have to change the gear and you have to keep the steering wheel in control.
You have to make the balance between the brake and the accelerator, and the clutch and everything.
When you get in a habit, when your mind gets adapted, when it goes into the subconscious, you’re able to drive the car.
That’s awareness. Understanding how things work.
Raising your awareness means being consciously aware of where you’re deriving your pleasure from.
You can derive pleasure for meditation from a long walk from reading a book, from journaling, from talking to your friends. Hanging out in good company, discussing ideas and watching a documentary.
You can derive pleasure from things that are good for you. And not destroying you physically, mentally and emotionally and spiritually.
Step one is to define the things that are hurting you, that you need control over.
You have to have an alternative or each one of those things.
How can you shift the attention from A to B if the B doesn’t exist.?
The mind needs to focus its attention on something else. If that’s something else doesn’t even exist. How can you make that transition?
Give it that alternative.
If you don’t want to eat cake, instead, eat fruits.
If you don’t want to wake up at five in the morning, try seven. Let’s try seven first.
Be kind to yourself.
If you are trying very hard, the mind will resist and then you’ll fail
Seeds don’t become trees in a day, it takes time. Similarly, the mind changes, but it will take some time.
Don’t try to force the mind.
Don’t control the mind.
Don’t fight with the mind.
Pause, observe, reflect, and give it an alternative.
That’s how you slowly change.
